I have sent two different passages this morning because they go together hand in hand. Matthew 17 is about the Mountain Of Transfiguration and Romans 3 is explains what exactly happened up on the mountain. Please don’t just read over this! First of all, there is no way for us to comprehend what is fully going on when Jesus is transfigured on the mountain. It is literally his divinity bursting forth through his humanity. It says his face shone like the sun and was white as light. In Revelation it say that in heaven we won’t even need the sun because Jesus is the source of light. Second of all, we need to understand as Jewish men James, John, and Peter seeing Moses and Elijah would be like us meeting Superman. Moses had been dead for 1300 years at this point and Elijah never dies it just says that he disappears and goes to heaven and this was 800 years before this. This must have been mind blowing for the disciples. But this is the cool part. I want you to Reread Romans 3 knowing this.
Moses= The writer of the law
Elijah= The greatest of the prophets
Jesus= Righteousness and the fulfillment of the law and the prophets
The scene on the Mountain Of Transfiguration is literally the picture of what only Jesus Christ could save us from. He was the only one that could fulfill what we could not. In verse 21 it says that “the righteousness of God has been revealed, attested by the law (Moses) and the prophets (Elijah). God gave the law and the prophets to us and we could only temporarily atone for our sins until Jesus Christ ultimately and permanently atoned for our sins and clothed us in his righteousness so that we could have to possibility of accepting His salvation and His Holy Spirit. We cannot even begin to fully comprehend how good this news is for us. Today we celebrate our country’s freedom, but don’t forget to celebrate your freedom from sin that Jesus has given us also today. Love y’all! Have a great day!
