Now that we are done with Exodus we are going to move on to Leviticus which is basically a book of laws given to Moses by God for atonement of sins and for the purpose of the Israelites being set apart from other pagan nations. These laws are what God gave the Israelites so that they would belong to him and choose him with their faith. Their obedience showed where their heart belonged. Chapter one is the law God gave Moses for burnt offerings. People could give from their flock, from their herd, or from birds. This showed that anyone, no matter their means, could give unto the Lord and atone for their sins. God shows from the very beginning that he wants their first and best, not because he needs it, but because it shows where their faith and loyalty belonged too. God calls for the Israelites to give, according to their means, an unblemished sacrifice which meant basically an animal that was perfectly healthy. This showed that the Israelites weren’t giving God their scraps or their leftovers. Even though Jesus has come and we atone for our sins through his perfect sacrifice we can still learn from God’s character and what he desires from us. He wants our heart. He wants our first and best. He doesn’t want our leftovers or scraps. We can display this through giving of tithes, giving of our time, and how we worship. When you get paid God gives us an opportunity to tithe. Ask yourself, when you get paid do you use your money for what you want and give God the scraps? Or do you give God 10 percent and trust he will provide what you need? Do you plan your week around God or do you do what you want and if there is any time left you give God a little of it? When you worship God do you give him your whole heart or do you give him what you have left over? What God desires is a state of humbleness, humility, and true love for him. He doesn’t desire to be an accessory in our lives he desires to be at the forefront. He sent his one and only begotten son to die for you and for me. He loved us so much he put on flesh, lived the perfect life you and I could not live, died, and rose again to give us the opportunity to give our lives and our heart to him. Leviticus 1:1-17

“Then the Lord summoned Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting: “Speak to the Israelites and tell them: When any of you brings an offering to the Lord from the livestock, you may bring your offering from the herd or the flock. “If his offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he is to bring an unblemished male. He will bring it to the entrance to the tent of meeting so that he may be accepted by the Lord. He is to lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering so it can be accepted on his behalf to make atonement for him. He is to slaughter the bull before the Lord; Aaron’s sons the priests are to present the blood and splatter it on all sides of the altar that is at the entrance to the tent of meeting. Then he is to skin the burnt offering and cut it into pieces. The sons of Aaron the priest will prepare a fire on the altar and arrange wood on the fire. Aaron’s sons the priests are to arrange the pieces, the head, and the fat on top of the burning wood on the altar. The offerer is to wash its entrails and legs with water. Then the priest will burn all of it on the altar as a burnt offering, a food offering, a pleasing aroma to the Lord. “But if his offering for a burnt offering is from the flock, from sheep or goats, he is to present an unblemished male. He will slaughter it on the north side of the altar before the Lord. Aaron’s sons the priests will splatter its blood against the altar on all sides. He will cut the animal into pieces with its head and its fat, and the priest will arrange them on top of the burning wood on the altar. But he is to wash the entrails and legs with water. The priest will then present all of it and burn it on the altar; it is a burnt offering, a food offering, a pleasing aroma to the Lord. “If his offering to the Lord is a burnt offering of birds, he is to present his offering from the turtledoves or young pigeons. , Then the priest is to bring it to the altar, and will twist off its head and burn it on the altar; its blood should be drained at the side of the altar. He will remove its digestive tract, cutting off the tail feathers, and throw it on the east side of the altar at the place for ashes. He will tear it open by its wings without dividing the bird. Then the priest is to burn it on the altar on top of the burning wood. It is a burnt offering, a food offering, a pleasing aroma to the Lord.”
