In Exodus 25, God gives Moses the blueprint to the mercy seat, where in the Old Covenant, God could dwell with his people. It is a replica of what is to come in heaven in the kingdom that God right now dwells in. This was quite literally heaven on earth for God’s people in those days. It is where the high priest would give temporary offerings and sacrifices unto the Lord that was man made. The kingdom that we now belong to was perfectly made by God. This blueprint is irrelevant to us since Jesus has sacrificed himself for us. We are under a New Covenant. There is no more need for sins to be forgiven because God no longer sees his people’s sins. It was said before and after Jesus came to earth to die for the sins of the world.
Jeremiah 31:31-34 (Before Jesus)
“Look, the days are coming” — this is the Lord’s declaration — “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. This one will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors on the day I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt — my covenant that they broke even though I am their master” , — the Lord’s declaration. “Instead, this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days” — the Lord’s declaration. “I will put my teaching within them and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will one teach his neighbor or his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they will all know me, from the least to the greatest of them” — this is the Lord’s declaration. “For I will forgive their iniquity and never again remember their sin.”
Hebrews 8:8-12 (After Jesus)
“But finding fault with his people, he says: See, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah — not like the covenant that I made with their ancestors on the day I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt. I showed no concern for them, says the Lord, because they did not continue in my covenant. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. And each person will not teach his fellow citizen, and each his brother or sister, saying, “Know the Lord,” because they will all know me, from the least to the greatest of them. For I will forgive their wrongdoing, and I will never again remember their sins.”
Jesus has defeated sin and has given us the opportunity to be forgiven solely by repenting and believing that when Jesus died on the cross it was for us. When you do this he gives you his gift of the Holy Spirit that dwells in everyone who knows Jesus Christ as their Lord and savior. Love y’all. Have a great day!
